Introduction: In view of the rising status of Qatar as a hub of architectural design and quality construction, with many architects moving to setup offices in Doha, The Ministry of Municipality has decided to support the establishment of a professional institute of architects, both to promote the practice of architecture and the quality of built environment in the state. You are requested as a committee of three to submit draft proposal for a Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. The draft of the proposed Qatar Institute of Architects Code of Ethics and professional conduct should be based reviews of the AIA Code of Practice and Professional conduct and the RIBA code of Practice and Professional conduct. Copies of the AIA hand of profession practice is already available to the class as course text, as well as in the lecture materials. A group of 3 to 4 students will undertake the task as a committee. Assignment Content: The assignment requires you to undertake the following activities: – Review the AIA and RIBA code of Practices, along with that of any other Architectural Association that you find interesting. – Examine and identify what is common and what is different between the two codes. – Synthesize the two codes with your own input to generate the Qatar Institute of Architect Code of Ethics and Professional Conduct. – Prepare a final report, that presents the QIA code and the justification for code formulated. Assessment criteria: – Ability to critically study the AIA and RIBA Codes. – Ability synthesis and formulate a code based on the study. – Ability to prepare a report that communicates both the suggested code and its justification. – Ability to present the code and the process of its formulation to the class.
