What is the “Human Rights Revolution” according to Blau and Esparza?

Follow the same strategy as you do for workbooks and discussion board: Read, Think, convey Cognitively and Feel- lay out your own examples and then critique, assess and provide prescriptions and solutions to the problem and its formulation where appropriate.

QUESTIONS:


1) What is the “Human Rights Revolution” according to Blau and Esparza? What are its challenges? How does Globalization help or hinder these matters? What would we need as individuals and societies in order to contribute to it and to proliferate globally? (Argue the case as you discuss the propositions in the readings and cite key passages)

Briefly discuss the prescriptions (solutions) you recommend for this problem (tension between human rights ethics values and practices and its paradigmatic challenges).? Support your argument with Esparza’s proposals and critique or extend them.

2) What are Capitalism’s contradictions or tensions when it comes to enforcing human rights principles in contemporary society?

3) What can social movements and local communities do to ensure protection and expansion of economic and social rights and to minimize the growing dramatic socio-economic inequalities? Can you think of any economic policy alternatives, following the analyses of a diversity of top world economists? (you may use Klein, Sachs, Stiglitz and other posted audiovisual references/research, etc)

4) Observe: “Walk On Earth” for 10 minutes in silence, that is, walk in any chosen location with a beginners’ mind. Observe and take note of what you see in your chosen location / neighborhood. With the perspective of human rights in mind: what do you see? Do you see any problems and challenges? Do you see any solutions?

Now do a bit of research on any social problems in the area and find out specifically if there are any neighborhood community organization or NGOs or any social organizing in this location about any of the problems or demands/needs you have observed.
