Use the playtest template available in the Assessments section of Canvas as a starting point and customize this to your own needs. You should include the following and any other notes you feel are relevant: • The Plan: What questions do you plan to ask the playtesters, what features of the game are you testing, and/or what are you going to look out for in your observations of the players? What do you expect to learn from this? Be specific, testing to see the overall enjoyment of the game is not good enough. • The Data: A record of the answers that playtesters gave to your questionnaires, notes from your observations, interview notes, photos taken during the playtest, etc. Again, be specific; a simple observation not saying “they appeared to have fun” is not good enough – what exactly did the players do moment to moment. • The Impact: What does this data tell you about the game in its current state? What is currently working well with the game and what is not? What do you recommend to the rest of your group to change in the game as a result of this playtest and how do you believe that this will improve the game? Yet again, be specific. Imagine you are a designer who is giving feedback to a development team; it is not enough to say “the attack value needs to be stronger” otherwise the development team will be doing your job for you (and you should rightfully be fired) as they try to figure out what “stronger” means. Be specific about how much stronger it needs to be (10%, 50%, 4 points?) and exactly how this will impact other rules in the game and the overall experience of every player’s experience
